My attempt at NOT having Halloween

. . .was a complete failure. The kids were so excited that they woke up and tried to make costumes.  I felt bad. So, I broke down and bought some candy for their lunches.

That evening, we went one of the local Pentecostal Christian churches where they were having a "light party" a.k.a. missionary opportunity for the church.  It was a blast, a combined kid carnival and BBQ with prizes. It was well done!

So, we did celebrate Halloween after all, New Zealand style.

Eric wanted to be a ninja and he desperately wanted me to paint his face. But, as you can imagine, I didn't bring the Halloween make-up with us nor did they have much selection at the store. 

He was ECSTATIC when he found out they were doing face painting.
He finally got his ninja mask painted on!
