1st Day of School NZ, part 2

So, it's pretty cold here right now. This was their first day of school. They have been attending for about two weeks and love it. Eric is the only one with homework. He's "behind" since they start kindergarten at age 3. This means we get to do make-up work.

School is year-round here. Their first holiday will begin next Monday, and summer break will begin on December 18th.  The academic year starts at the beginning of the calendar year. Luke will be attending intermediate school in January. He essentially just skipped the 5th grade. It's worked extremely well for him. We'll see how intermediate school goes because they increase the rigor and require full uniforms.

Knighton Normal is affiliated with the University of Waikato, the school I'm attending. Because of its location in the city and its affiliation with the Uni (no, one says 'university' here), it is extremely diverse. During any given academic year, they will have 30-60 different ethnicities attending the school.

One of the men in our ward is Indonesian, attended BYU and now works for the Ministry of Education in New Zealand. He told us the other day that Knighton is one of the best schools in Hamilton. So, we were delighted to "happen" into their school boundaries.
